Problem |
Likely solution |
| I just
opened the unit and am totally baffled by it. |
OK, this is because you are
intimidated by it. Take a deep breath. You want to
translate, correct? Look on the screen, and you'll see
four buttons. Try the iTranslate button and see what
happens. |
|
I haven't used a touchscreen device,
before. |

Device
has stopped responding. It just hangs up. |
Welcome
to modern technology! As with your computer, cell phone,
PDA, camera, etc, you have to reboot the device. Use the
reset button. |
|
The
screen is blank. Nothing happens. |
Press the reset button. If this doesn't
solve the problem, resinstall the SD card, ensure the
device is charged up, and reset it again. |
| The unit works, sort of,
but I can't access the phrasebook and some controls
don't work at all. |
Reinstall the
SD card. These
symptoms are typical of an SD card that has been "bumped" out of its locked-in
position |
|
I don't have my paper manual with me
and am away from home. I have limited Internet access
and don't have the bandwidth to download the PDF
from your site. |
Tap the question mark on the upper
right of any screen. |
| I would like to diagnose
things on my device. |
Cool. Here's how to do
that.
- Press and hold on/off key.
- Press Reset, then release it.
- Continue to hold on/off key
until diagnostic screen comes up.
- Release on/off.
- Open Self-Test menu item.
You'll see all kinds of diagnostic stuff. You can
even measure the battery voltage.

I don't understand the phrasebook. |
We have, for your
convenience, a phrasebook tutorial. |

My battery won't hold a charge. |
You have a
li-polymer battery in a small device. Like the
battery in all mobile devices today, it's designed for a
trade-off between size/weight and run time. Assuming you
clicked the
li-polymer battery link and read about care and
feeding of this battery:
- Try charging it via the USB
cable. This eliminates any 120VAC adapter issues. If
that solves the problem, then you have issues with
your 120VAC supply or your adapter.
- See if the battery is firmly
seated. When it's not, you can have several problems
including "low battery" indication. You can try
shimming the battery with a small, folded piece of
paper (if so, don't wedge it in tightly--just
tighter than it was, or you can actually defeat the
battery contacts).
|
|
It takes a long time to open
applications. |
This is a matter of perception.
Mobile devices do run slower than desktop devices. They
run much cooler, too, and they run on battery. To
achieve their small size, mobile devices make several
trade-offs. Speed is one of them. Look inside your
desktop machine some time and notice the fans and huge
cooling fins--then look again at your iTravl. For its
size, it's pretty quick. |
